Woman's Body Found Hanging From Tree - Mistaken for Halloween Decoration

Perhaps it wouldn't be so bizarre if it weren't true. Of course, we're all used to Halloween decorations in October, but this one had an unfortunate bit of reality. Imagine the shock of the passerby who discovered that a body hanging from a tree wasn't part of a Halloween display, but that of a real person. It sounds like something out of a horror flick but it really happened in Frederica, Delaware.

A 42-year-old woman was apparently distraught enough to commit suicide by hanging herself from a tree -- in full view of other houses and passing vehicles. Locals in the neighborhood noticed the body early Wednesday, October 26, 2005, assuming it was rigged up as a Halloween prop.

About three hours later, police were called to the scene where they soon realized this was no prank. The woman had hanged herself with a rope, about fifteen feet above the ground, and blended right in with the yard display.

Why she would do this, where her corpse could be viewed by anyone in the neighborhood, including children is beyond comprehension. There's no word yet on the results of the investigation but authorities are treating this as a suicide.
